One of my absolute fave restaurants in Ottawa, ON is a Chinese restaurant called Brother Wu. It is located at 1060 St. Laurent Blvd, just north of the St. Laurent Shopping Centre. If you blink, you could miss it.
* Spicy Beef Noodle soup
* Xiao Lung Bao (steamed dumplings)
* Kou Tien (fried dumplings)
* Dumplings in spicy peanut sauce
* Green Onion Pancake
* Northern style dim sum only available on the weekends. This is my favourite part of their menu.
We have been going for years (if I tell you how many, it makes me feel old), so needless to say the owner recognizes us. We learned that he studies Buddhist Philosophy when he is not tending to the restaurant, so he surprised our table by handing my stepdad a “Chinese fortune” about me. I won’t go into the details, but it was very positive!
One last note: a number of notables also enjoy Brother Wu. Namely Stephen Harper and Peter Mackay. Photos of Harper are showcased at the restaurant and on their website. I am NOT a supporter of their politics (especially Mackay’s spending habits), however I would say they have great taste in food.
Summary: the next time you’re in Ottawa on a Sat/Sun, please check out Brother Wu. And maybe if you make nice with the owner, he may give you a reading as a bonus!
